Exceptional grades in english and writing courses. Took Advanced Placement courses in high school (AP Language and AP Literature). AP credit transferred to Hawaii Pacific University. PREVIOUS TUTORING EXPERIENCE: Writing lab tutor at Hawaii Pacific University. Duties: Assist student with brainstorming and prewriting to generate ideas for a paper, develop and organize student’s ideas, write draft, develop methods and ideas for revision, and help to edit and proofread writing. Invite students to read draft aloud. Focus on what needs work in students’ paper. Make suggestions on how to improve student’s writing. Ask questions to help student imagine ways to revise draft. Address and answer questions students may have regarding their writing or the writing process. Show students how to use a handbook to help with spelling, punctuation, grammar, format, documentation, and usage problems. Participate fully in the writing process. Build positive, collaborative tutor-writer relationships. I have tutored my peers throughout high school and continue to do so during college. Through my experience as a writing lab tutor, I not only was I able to give back to others by providing help and assistance with their writing, I was also able to gain valuable knowledge and skills that have benefitted me in my own writing. I enjoyed being able to work with others and see their progress and improvement. I find that it is such a beneficial and rewarding experience to be able to help others better understand and improve their business and writing skills. Being a tutor has been one of the best experiences and opportunities I've had because I like knowing that I am able to provide a student with one on one attention that will allow them to better themselves and their work. Courses taken in high school: AP Language, AP Literature, Myth and Fables, American Literature, English Composition.
